We were lucky enough to be invited to Bampot Kitchen and Bar in Phuket, to sample some dishes to see alternatives to the local Thai food. Bampot is a European kitchen and bar which has been open for 3 years, 1 year after head chef and owner Jamie Wakeford made the move to Phuket. Bampot’s team consists of 14 staff, a restaurant that seats 60 people and a exciting expansion plan which is going to be taking place in the next 5 years.
From the moment you walk into the restaurant you can sense the high attention to detail covering all aspects, from the kindness and attentiveness of waiting staff, to the cocktail art provided by the bartenders and the outstanding presentation and flavours in all the dishes prepared by the chefs.
The restaurant itself is visually stunning and a personal favourite factor for us was the open kitchen in the restaurant. It’s always nice have the opportunity to watch the chefs prepare your meal, and for the chefs to have the opportunity to interact with their guests. The array of seating was also a favourite for us in the design of Bampot’s restaurant, ranging from outdoor seating, bar stools and the more classic restaurant layout, making the restaurant suitable for any type of meal. In line with this was the menu; ranging from snacks, to starters, mains, desserts, sides, sharing platters and the intensive drinks list, again making the restaurant suitable for any occasion. The menu is based around quality ingredients that can be sourced so the menu frequently adapts based on the time of year.
Here are the dishes we were lucky enough to try:
Top left - Organic cherry tomato, balsamic onion, rocket and feta bruschetta
Scotch quail egg with mustard mayonnaise
Mini prawn burger with black bao bun, pickles and alioli
Spiced pumpkin soup with mascarpone tortellini and black olive
Phuket mule cocktail
Thai fried cauliflower with truffle mayonnaise
Potato gratin with garlic cream and parmesan crust
Wild mushroom tagliatelle with onion, rocket, truffel and epoisses cheese
Seared duck breast with pistachio, burnt cabbage, apple and vinegar jus
Tapioca; honeycomb, mango and raspberry sorbet
We think the photos really do speak for themselves. As much as we love Thai food, when you are not used to eating a local cuisine every day, it’s nice to know that there are amazing alternative restaurants that can not just settle any cravings you may have, but open your eyes to delicious new flavours. Bampot Kitchen and bar is a must visit when you are in Phuket. Follow them directly to see their journey.
We would like to give a huge thank you to Jamie, Freddy and all of the team at Bampot Kitchen and Bar for inviting us and making us feel so welcome during our time with you. We’re very excited for the future of Bampot within South East Asia.
